ISM1010 Home Singing Machine Karaoke System Review
Posted by admin in singing machine karaoke, singing machine karaoke reviews on August 19, 2010
When you start to research singing machine karaoke systems, you realize, after a point, that not all machines are created equal. It’s almost common knowledge that most machines can’t rival the set-ups of a professional karaoke bar or club. But that was before…
You see, the Singing Machine company decided to create a system that was a definite competitor to karaoke DJs in bars and clubs, but without the professional price tag. And so, the experts came up with the Singing Machine ISM1010 Home Karaoke System.
Just one quick glance at this monstrous device will let you know that it’s clearly different from most karaoke set-ups. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s unmanageable by any means.
On the contrary, an Internet customer review by Frank Jung mentions:
“…is a quality machine that comes with everything one needs to have a great entertaining party. First, it was easy to install-a mere 20 minutes or less to set it up from unpacking to assembly with just a screw driver. The instruction was easy to follow, with markers on the parts to guide one along…”
See? Not all monsters are dangerous. In fact, some can be nice. In this case, our monster wants you to sing through him.
OK, enough nonsense. Here are the stand-out specs for this system:
- This device is a pedestal-style singing system with a standard CDG player (Compact Disc plus Graphics) and an iPod docking port to blast out your personal mp3 collection.
- There’s a large speaker in the body of the main component plus two additional tall tower speakers. (Yea, I think they’ll be able to hear you)
- A 7 inch screen displays the lyrics right before your eyes.
- Turn on the radio with the AM/FM radio tuner.
- 2 included microphones
- A built-in video camera that allows you to watch yourself sing. (And allows others to make fun of you. But no, it’s really kind of neat.)
Now, not everything that comes with the Singing Machine ISM1010 Home Karaoke System is perfectly high quality. For starters, when you purchase a karaoke system, even singing machine karaoke systems, you should know from the start that the included microphones aren’t something you’ll find in a New York recording studio.
They’re merely there to get the action and fun going. And they do their job! However, customers have mentioned that the included microphones were not quite what they expected and resulted in purchasing better models later.
Replacement karaoke microphones can be picked up at your local department store for around $10 – $35 depending on the brand. So, you won’t have to empty your piggy bank if things go haywire.
On a final note, this singing machine karaoke system is one that’s really going to give you that loud and proud bar or club atmosphere with the sizable speakers and built-in lyric display. Yea, the poor-quality microphones are a drawback, but can be purchased almost anywhere for next to nothing. It sounds like a winner to me.

The Singing Machine Karaoke List Of Songs For Inexperienced Singers
Posted by admin in Singing Machine Karaoke Ideas, singing machine karaoke, the singing machine karaoke on September 3, 2010
Even writing this post makes me giggle a little bit, but you have to a agree that not every singer that approaches the Singing Machine karaoke system you have set up is going to be able to belt it out like a star. Heck, maybe that’s you!
Just a quick aside, you can check out the discounted ISM1010 model along with other models eligible for free shipping over at Amazon.com through these links.
Of course, I wouldn’t want to embarrass you and stomp on your dreams or anything, but we’ve all been in the situation where a vocalist came up to the microphone and they just didn’t have the chops to handle the tune. They were reaching for notes that wouldn’t come, needed a broader tone in their voice, or just had no clue.
But let’s not get all judgmental here. I, first of all, have to commend ANYONE for stepping up to the Singing Machine karaoke microphone to put them-self out there. I mean, come on! That’s opening yourself up to some harsh scrutiny.
So, just to put a little smooth surface on this awkward subject, maybe there are a few songs that “inexperienced” vocalists can try compared to others. Here’s a short list that might do those types of singers some justice:
- Mony Mony – Tommy James and the Shondells
- Wanted Dead or Alive – Bon Jovi
- You Give Love A Band Name – Bon Jovi
- Smells Like Team Spirit – Nirvana
- Livin’ La Vida Loca – Ricky Martin
- Hurts So Good – John Mellencamp
- Life in the Fast Lane – The Eagles
- 500 Miles – The Proclaimers
- Born to Be Wild – Steppenwolf
- Magic Carpet Ride – Steppenwolf
- Wild Thing – The Troggs
- Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
Is this list following some sort of decided standard for karaoke singing? Absolutely not. Don’t let us kid you.
What you choose to sing on the Singing Machine karaoke system is completely subjective to your style, level of singing, and the strength of your voice. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Just take this list as some guidelines. These songs have been performed over and over again by vocalists of all singing levels and everyone still has a great time.
For anyone that has some other suggestions of easy songs for new singers, please leave a comment so others can learn and try them out. Keep singing!

Choosing a Singing Machine karaoke system is a bit more than just deciding on what machine can give you the most volume. I’d like to think that we’ve evolved past the typical trunk-of-my-car system and can base our decisions on more practical reasons as opposed to how many other drivers can I irritate on the road.
There’s already a similar post that you can check out here: Singing Machine Karaoke Machine – Don’t Waste Your Money! Shop Smart!
But… I still think it’s important to note the major differences between these devices so consumers can get a better handle on what they want from a Singing Machine karaoke system. Let’s take a look…

The Singing Machine Karaoke Cds – Taking Care Of Them

The Singing Machine karaoke CDs
that you choose to purchase in the beginning should be the start of a great collection. For ideas on what CDs to check out, read this post: Singing Machine Karaoke Cd – 5 Simple Tips To Choosing The Best CD(g)s
Because, let’s be honest, we don’t like it when they get scratched or damaged. It causes us to throw things, call in bomb threats, or just become plain unpleasant when the Singing Machine karaoke CDs are not usable any more. So what are the simple things you can do to avoid damaged goods?
Keep Your CDs Out Of The Sun
Leaving CDs in a hot car or out on the deck is a quick way for them to be damaged. Try to keep your discs from being exposed to extreme hot or cold weather for safety.
Protect The Side Of The Disc Where Data Is Read
The Singing Machine karaoke CDs that you leave laying around can collect dust, get marks, or get scratches on its readable underside. Keep your CDs in their cases to avoid this kind of damage.
Wipe Your Discs From The Center Out
Most people can actually do more damage by wiping their discs in an incorrect manner. The correct way to wipe any sort of substance from the underside of the disc is to use a soft cloth and start from the center and wipe outwards in straight lines. Don’t wipe in circles!
You could even spring for a fancy cleaning device like THIS ONE if you really wanted to.
Here’s a few quick tips if you’re burning your own discs:
- Buy high-quality blanks to avoid “mis-burns”.
- Burn your discs at slower speeds (ex. 24x) as opposed to faster speeds (ex. 52x) to create higher-quality copies.
- If writing with marker on the Singing Machine karaoke CD, only write on the clear inner circle. Ink has been known to seep through the top layer and damage the underside.
Yea, it’s a bunch of safety hysteria. But… it’s good to know that the Singing Machine karaoke CDs that you buy next will stay working for a long time because of your anal-retentive behavior.

More Informative Singing Machine Karaoke Reviews
As much as I would just love to ramble on and on about the special features and awesomeness of the karaoke products that are shown on this site, reading your fair share of Singing Machine karaoke reviews is important to ensure that you’re buying a reliable and suitable product for your individual needs.
Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, one of the main reasons that customers are disappointed with their Singing Machine karaoke purchases is because they buy without knowing. What do I mean, “buy without knowing”?
How many times have you purchased a product, being very excited that you finally have it, only to find out that it was missing the ONE thing that you really wanted? That’s what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about the iPod model that you purchased because you thought it would tune into the radio, but it doesn’t. I’m talking about the Laptop that you bought because you heard it had a webcam, but it doesn’t.
Too many times we set ourselves up for defeat without researching what a product can do before we whip out those credit cards, and that’s the main reason that I like to present my own reviews, plus Singing Machine karaoke reviews from real customers.
Here are links to my very own reviews as well as links to the actual products plus a review snippet from a REAL owner of the product:

Customer Review Snippet (verbatim) from Steffan Piper via Amazon.com:
“…What I liked:
1) This unit is very easy to set up and get going.
2) The included speakers actually sound pretty good and have a decent range. I actually chose to hook into my home theatre on the second day, but I wouldn’t dismiss the speakers as they’re fine for small parties or being mobile or using with the kids.
3) The entire unit is very easy to use and has more than enough basic functions for any Karaoke party. It’s easy to quickly learn how to sound good with this and you wont get bogged down trying to navigate submenus or anything silly like that…”

Customer Review Snippet from Momof4 via Amazon.com:
“I bought this item for my daughter’s 8 birthday. I had looked at quite a few different types but really didn’t want to spend too much money. Amazon’s price was the best I have seen and the item arrived quickly. My daughter absolutely loved it. She has played with it daily since getting it. It is very easy to hook up to the TV; she uses it that way or just uses it in her room with the disco lights and microphone. Very much worth the price!”

Customer Review from OCD Lula via Amazon.com:
“One of my co-workers bought this for work and it’s great. Our clients love to sing and there are plenty of different functions/options. I found the mic to be very loud at it’s Max, unlike one other reviewer. The only reason we didn’t rate it a five star was because it doesn’t have a vocals display on the box…it has to be hooked up to a TV. We have had it for some time and have had no problems.”

The Different Types/Formats Of Singing Machine Karaoke CDs
Posted by admin in singing machine karaoke, singing machine karaoke cd, singing machine karaoke cds on August 26, 2010
Are Singing Machine karaoke CDs really “CDs”?
Singing Machine karaoke CDs are commonly called “CDs”, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re all just ordinary compact discs. On the contrary, there are a few different karaoke formats that are frequently used and they each have different characteristics.
- (CDG) Compact Disc plus Graphics
- (DVD) Digital Versatile Disc
- (VCD) Video Compact Disc
(CDG) Compact Disc plus Graphics
CDGs are pretty much the standard as far as karaoke music formats are concerned.
One reason they are the authoritative choice is because they can still play in ordinary CD players and most DVD players. So, if you wanted to practice on your own without the singing machine karaoke machine, you could pop these high-quality discs into any ordinary CD player and go.
Here are some links to the most popular CDGs out at the moment:
- Fearless – Karaoke (W/Dvd) by Taylor Swift
- Disney Karaoke: Disney Channel 1
- Party Tyme Karaoke: Oldies
- Party Tyme Karaoke: Super Hits 12
Another reason they’re considered the standard is because there’s such a huge selection of music! If you’re looking for any new hits, classics, rock and roll tunes, or pop chart toppers, my bet is you’ll find them in CDG format and not as actual “Singing Machine karaoke CDs“.
(DVD) Digital Versatile Disc and (VCD) Video Compact Disc
DVDs were more commonly referred to as Digital Video Discs until more experimenting and better use of the format was discovered. DVD and VCD are pretty similar since they both:
- Can be loaded into most DVD players
- Display lyrics
- Play the music
- Show videos
Now, DVDs and VCDs are not commonly used for Singing Machine karaoke CDs, but they play their part in the karaoke world.
You can load both of them into DVD players. I wouldn’t know what a VCD player looks like anyway.
Since they’re both video-based, you’re gonna see the lyrics. That’s a definite plus for people who can’t remember anything like me!
Along with playing music, these formats are good for showing music videos in the background if you’re into that sort of thing. But watch out as some just show weird scenery or people as opposed to the official videos. Make sure to read the fine print!
So now you know that when you’re looking for Singing Machine karaoke CDs, you’re actually looking for CDGs for your or possibly DVDs or VCDs for use in your DVD player. Whatever your choice is, continue to shop smart and sing awesome!

Singing Machine Karaoke Machines – 6 Simple Tips To Surprise The Crowd With Your Vocal Talent
Posted by admin in singing machine karaoke, singing machine karaoke machines on August 25, 2010
Powerful Singing Tips On Singing Machine Karaoke Machines
The thing about Singing Machine karaoke machines is when you can put on a fantastic singing performance to a group of your close friends and family, and they DON’T expect it, they’ll look at you like “Holy cow! Did that really come out of his/her mouth?!”
It’s a great feeling to be able to turn a few heads every now and then, but it doesn’t have to happen by chance, by accident, or once in a full moon either. You can do some quick and simple preparation to put on a great show at your next karaoke get-together and gain a reputation as “the talented one.”
Check out these 6 easy, but effective tips:
1. Practice
Yes, I know that it sounds cheesy to practice for the next karaoke night, but since that’s what everyone else thinks, THEY are NOT going to be practicing. With just a half hour of practice each night, you’ll be so far ahead of everyone else when they start setting up the Singing Machine karaoke machines.
2. Know Your Song’s Timing
You know, just as well as I do, how awkward it can be when someone goes up to sing and they just can’t line up with the tempo of the tune. Don’t let that be you!
Tap your foot. Bob your head. Just do something so you know exactly where the beat is and you won’t miss your cue!
3. Be Loud And Proud With Your Voice
Nobody really knows what to think when the performer goes to the stage and just mumbles their way through the entire song. Are they scared, don’t know the words, or completely lost?
Make the audience believe that you know exactly what you’re doing. Stand tall, breathe in deep through your belly, and make every chord on those Singing Machine karaoke machines loud and proud!
4. Use And Hold The Microphone Correctly
Most people don’t know how to hold a microphone, but you will. Professional vocalists keep that
microphone almost touching their lips, so pull that thing in closer to your mouth for a stronger sound.
A hydrated voice is a strong voice. That doesn’t mean you should grab a tall pint of beer for the performance and slosh all over the microphone. Water is the best thing for you voice and will treat you well if you drink it before and during your performance.
6. Calm Down And Be Yourself
The most important thing is to be yourself. Nobody expects you to be be a professional singer. On the contrary, everyone thinks that you’ll be just like them! If you get butterflies before the song, just stop, take a couple long deep breaths, and remember that YOU are your strictest critic.
Now you have a few secrets to nail that next singing session when someone pulls out the Singing Machine karaoke machines. Practice beforehand, learn the timing of the tune, speak up, use the microphone correctly, drink some water, and be yourself. Follow all that and you’re bound to see a few heads turn with amazement.

Singing Machine Karaoke Player – Best Songs For My Voice
Posted by admin in singing machine karaoke, singing machine karaoke player on August 24, 2010
What should I sing on the Singing Machine karaoke player?
An important decision to make when you approach the Singing Machine karaoke player is “What song should I sing?” Now, in most instances, this is easily answered by “My favorites…duh.”
However, what do you do if you don’t think you have the strong vocal chords to tackle your favorite songs? Maybe your skills are TOO strong and might be over-powering? Well, here’s a short list of song types and what sort of vocalist can shine from their use:
1. Popular Radio Hits
The reason these songs are on the radio is because the lyrics are easy to remember, the rhythm and chords are comfortable to follow, and the pitches are usually easy to sing. If you consider yourself a beginner or “not-so-good” vocalist, consider starting with one of these tunes.
2. Diva Songs
Diva songs require some very strong air support and a wide pitch range from vocalists that are not strangers to singing. So, for experienced singers, these songs might be for you, but I wouldn’t advise a beginner to attempt something like these on a Singing Machine karaoke player.
3. Hard Rock or Alternative
Every man has a little grunge in him and that’s who these rock songs are usually targeted at. For guys that have a naturally low speaking voice, like a baritone vocalist, try your hand at a hard rock song and get those ladies swooning.
4. Classics
Classic songs that were typically “big band” or done by Frank Sinatra pop up now and then on a karaoke list. This might be exactly what you should go for if you think you can perform with a more expressive and dynamic style. (Diversify between loud and soft)
As you sing more on your Singing Machine karaoke player, you’ll notice that a wider library of tunes will become easier and more fun to perform. Just take baby steps, follow what you’re truly capable of to begin, and eventually you’ll start belting out songs like some of the greats.

The Singing Machine Karaoke Machine Improves Singing?
Posted by admin in singing machine karaoke, the singing machine karaoke machine on August 22, 2010
The Singing Machine karaoke machine as a singing tool?
Most people consider the Singing Machine karaoke machine to be just a fun, past-time activity, but they might be missing something. What about those who are sincerely interested in learning to sing?
It’s difficult enough these days with all of the social pressure of popular singing television reality shows to be an excellent singer even if you only consider it as a care-free hobby. It can be difficult sometimes to watch television contestants continuously crash and burn when they approach a panel of vocally-trained judges.
But what can a simple electronic device like the Singing Machine karaoke machine do for me as a singer? Actually, it can give you more practice as a true singer than you think!
Check out these points:
- Stage Presence
- Projection
- Friendly Feedback
Stage Presence
A common reason that amateur vocalists never continue to the next level of professionalism is due to their lack of presence and confidence. Have you ever noticed that when you’re very confident about doing something well that you generally execute it well?
That’s the main idea. The more you practice singing, especially if that happens to be with the help of the Singing Machine karaoke machine, the more you’ll develop a powerful self-confidence and courage to rule the stage that becomes more effortless with time.
Projection
Can anyone here you? There’s really only so much that a P.A. system can do to make you sound good. In reality, all it’s giving you is volume, but YOU need to provide the power!
Practicing your favorite karaoke songs repeatedly is great, but try to smoothly breathe in while keeping all of your air contained down in your belly like an inflated basketball as opposed to all up in your shoulders. This is the real key to vocal projection and power.
Friendly Feedback
Probably one of the best things about practicing singing through the help of the Singing Machine karaoke machine is the intimate and friendly-feedback setting that you can create.
In order to grow as a vocalist, you constantly need feedback. You just gotta have it, otherwise you’ll never know what you need to improve upon. And, with your friends and family by your side, you should be able to count on them for very constructive comments without causing you to feel inadequate or ashamed of yourself.
Definitely consider the Singing Machine karaoke machine as a way to have a great time with your friends and loved ones, but don’t over look its real learning capacity. Because, let’s be honest, when you go up to sing karaoke for the first time, you’re really gonna learn a lot in that very short period.

What Singing Machine Karaoke System Is Right For My Occasion?
When you make the decision to get a Singing Machine karaoke system for your party, wedding, graduation, etc., you’re thinking “I want to have some good old-fashioned fun.” Right?
You want to be singing care-free! You don’t want to be worried about the model being too loud, not having enough microphones, or people complaining that they need to see the lyrics.
You’ll have enough to worry about with all of the alcohol flowing anyway…
Even at the happiest of occasions, it’s still some work to prepare and that’s why you need to do some quick decision-making and think about what you’ll really need for your event.
1. Party
If it’s a party that you’re looking at, the singing machine karaoke system can vary by what sort of bash you’re throwing. If we’re talking about a small get-together with only a few friends in one room, you can do well with something small like the SML-370 or the SML-383.
Check out my reviews here:

2. Wedding/Graduation Party
For weddings and graduations, you’re gonna need something big that has power and juice. Right off the top, I would recommend the ISM1010 with its two tower speakers, lyric monitor, two microphones, and iPod docking port. It’s a beast! (But in a good way
)
The review for that model can be found here:

3. Personal Use
As far as your own personal use goes, that’s up to you! The only way that you can make an educated choice on a singing machine karaoke system is if you determine your reason for purchasing it in the first place.
Do you consider yourself a professional vocalist? Go for something that will give you enough volume to be heard with the personal quality requirements that you need. Again, maybe the ISM1010.
If you’re just looking for quick fun entertainment, go for something more modest, unless you think you’ll get a lot of use out of it!
See, it’s just plain difficult to determine what model to get unless you know exactly what your own intentions are. Think long and hard about what you want to get out of your singing machine karaoke system before you make a purchase and you should come out happy.

Singing Machine Karaoke Cd – 5 Simple Tips To Choosing The Best CD(g)s
Posted by admin in singing machine karaoke, singing machine karaoke cd on August 19, 2010
Just as important as the machine, the singing machine karaoke CD that you choose is really going to set the mood for the entire night ahead.
Do you want to take a blast back into the beginnings of rock and roll? Do you want your spectators to try out some show tunes? Maybe everyone wants to hear the most recent pop star! (Before they abruptly drop off the face of the Earth)
For instance, Party Tyme Karaoke: Super Hits 14 has a pretty broad selection of the general newest tunes.
Just to clarify the title regarding CD(g), “CDg” is the standard karaoke CD format which stands for Compact Disc plus Graphics. These specially-produced formats are used to display lyrics or special images exclusively on karaoke machines.
Whatever the occasion, there are decisions that need to be made and some of them don’t even have to do with the genre. Let’s take a look at five simple tips that will help you make the best choices on singing machine karaoke CDs.
1. Know Your Participants
Would you purchase a bunch of rock and roll karaoke CDs when you think your vocalists are show tune fans? I wouldn’t! Whether this machine is being used for your personal benefit or to liven up a party, make a simple list with a pen and pad on what genres will be accepted. (and which might be despised…) eg. For the rock fans: Male Rock Mega Pack
2. Diversify The Genres
After you’ve made your list on what you believe others would like to hear or sing, make sure you cover at least three different genres with the singing machine karaoke CD(s) that you purchase (The Sound Of Our Days: Various Artists, Vol. 3
). Give your participants plenty of options since most people, probably including yourself, enjoy listening and getting into more than one genre of music.
3. Plan For Duets
Of course this is dependant on your machine’s equipment, (owning more than one microphone), but checking out tunes that are intended for two vocalists is a great way to loosen others up if they don’t want to sing alone. Again, be mindful of the genre taste since most duets are slow ballad types.
4. Get Some Typical Dance Tunes
When you go to a dance or party, there usually comes a point when someone either puts on the “YMCA”, or “Shout!” and everyone just loves it. Why not plan accordingly? Look for those typical group songs on a singing machine karaoke CD that get everyone shouting, clapping, and singing along.
5. Get Something Recent
As much as the argument, “You can’t go wrong with the classics” always seems to arise, people are generally more attracted to the next new and exciting star. Don’t be afraid to pick up a karaoke album of the latest country sensation or the new band at the top of the rock charts during the last week. Ex. You can pre-order the very popular “Party Tyme Karaoke: Super Hits 14” now!
Whatever you choose, keep things diversified, group-inclusive, and exciting! When people enjoy the music they here from the singing machine karaoke CD you chose, they’re going to give you all the credit.
